Foundation of Girls Education and Health Network (FOGEAHN), a local Non-governmental organization working in Neno district, has today, Thursday, donated school bags, exercise books and other learning materials to over 70 learners at Nanzanga primary school.
Speaking to Zodiak Online, Mary Mujaji the Executive Director of the Organisation said she was concerned to see that learners were carrying learning materials in plastic bags.
“It is sad to see these future leaders going to school with plastic bags hence our coming to motivate them,” she said.
She then thanked the Neno District Chief Education Officer Sonnex Lukharuwe for the good coordination towards the selection of the needy students.
Likharuwe on his part said the donation was timely especially now that rains have started. He said the bags will ensure that books do not get soaked in water.
FOGEAHN was established in 2021 and is geared to support the education and health of the girl child in the district.
Neno District Education Network chairperson Russell Msiska expressed happiness to see the children having the school bags.
He said “as we are approaching the rainy season, we need to ensure that our girl-child is protected and her education is not interrupted”.
The Foundation is hopeful that with more funding, it can do more to increase the uptake and retention of girls and boys in both primary and secondary education levels.
